Volunteers Needed

You are needed as a volunteer to help our 50th Monster Cookie to be the best ever!

Volunteering early:

Gives you more options to select how you would like to contribute

Can give you input on how something is done

Enables me to focus on fewer “holes”

Lets me relax knowing our needs are covered

See below for current opportunities

  • Joining one of two teams to check/clean and mark the route
  • Joining one of two teams to remove the route markers after the ride
  • Monitor and help riders at difficult intersections and railroad crossings
  • Working with the sign company to put out and pick up required traffic signs
  • Many other spots including helping load, unload, and staffing tables at the start/finish

All opportunities are listed on the SBC website as part of the volunteer sign-up page for the Monster Cookie.  Some tasks take more effort than others but all are important.  Of the tasks listed above, only the monitoring of difficult spots along the course, precludes one from also riding.

If you are one of the many members who have already stepped forward, thank you.

Should you have any questions, please email me at:  volunteer.sbc.salem@gmail.com

Thank You,
David Philbrick, Monster Cookie Volunteer Coordinator

Bicycle Safety Education (BSE) with Salem-Keizer Public Schools has begun! We are seeking adult volunteers this school year to assist and support PE teachers and SK-SRTS staff during BSE.

Refer to the steps below to get your volunteer process started:

Step 1: Complete the Salem-Keizer School District (SKSD) Adult Volunteer Application and Background Check.

Step 2: Forward SKSD volunteer approval email to sksaferoutes@gmail.com.

Step 3: Receive SK-SRTS volunteer packet via email to finish volunteer process.

If you have volunteered in the past, you are ahead of the game! Please contact Safe Routes to School to confirm your volunteer application and background check status. If you have applied and were approved within the last 3-5 years, DO NOT reapply.

All volunteers are required to fill out and return the SK-SRTS Volunteer Packet.

Our program could not be successful without the support of our volunteers. Let's continue to get more kids on bikes together! Check out our website and social media for more information on Bicycle Safety Education

Why Support the Monster Cookie Metric Century

The Salem Bicycle Club has played a pivotal role in the success of the Safe Routes bike program since its beginning. Through a combination of dedicated volunteer efforts and significant financial support, the club has made a lasting impact on the community and the lives of many children.

Volunteer Engagement

Club members have generously donated many hours of their time, volunteering with Safe Routes bicycle initiatives. Notably, over 30 members contributed their efforts to the Ironman event for two consecutive years, further enhancing the club’s involvement and outreach.

Financial Contributions

  • Direct Donations: The club has provided direct financial support to the Safe Routes program, totaling $9,273.00.
  • Ironman Grants: An additional $2,200.00 was secured through Ironman grants, which were made possible by the club’s volunteer participation at Ironman events.

Program Enhancements and Child Empowerment

Funds raised by the Salem Bicycle Club have been strategically invested to benefit the Safe Routes bike program and its participants:

  • A portion of the proceeds contributed to the purchase of the program’s very own trailer, enhancing logistical capabilities.
  • Collaborating with the Northwest Hub, the club’s financial support helped many children receive their very first bicycles, fostering independence and joy.
  • The club also purchased gloves and shoes, providing much-needed equipment that contributed to the program’s ongoing success.

Conclusion

Through steadfast volunteerism, targeted fundraising, and thoughtful allocation of resources, the Salem Bicycle Club has demonstrated a strong commitment to youth empowerment and safer, more accessible cycling opportunities for children in the community.
